One of the sad truths about this game is that you HAVE to have a DM in order to play. Maybe one day they’ll come up with a way to bash monsters and loot treasure that does NOT involve being held hostage to the esoteric “story” of some deranged wannabe-writer.
Unfortunately, it seems unlikely. I mean, how are they going to program a computer to pit your character against a progressive series of increasingly difficult challenges with similarly powerful rewards? Forget it! We don’t even have a space shuttle anymore. You might as well wish for nereids to be real.
So how do you deal with the DM? You do it THE BASTARD WAY.
